Hockey History:
Throughout history people have played games involving a curved stick and a ball. There are pictures and descriptions of these events in ancient Egypt, Greece and the Middle Ages in Europe. There is even evidence of people playing hockey or stick and ball games like ice in Europe in the sixteenth century. And of course, immigrants from the Americas, they brought with them many games they played in their respective countries, such as hurling and hockey and other games.
ice hockey today owes much to these earlier games. Both field hockey, is the forerunner and ice hockey was basically a modification of the game to adapt to colder climates and others. The first ice hockey game is recorded as having taken place in Montreal, Canada, an indoor arena in March 1875. It was not until 1904 that the first professional league hockey was formed in Michigan, USA, the International Professional Hockey League. The league has lasted four years, doubling in 1907. For hockey, the first international match took place between Ireland and Wales, with a high score of 3-0, the winner Ireland.
